Weekend at the 5* AC Palacio de Santa Paula in Granada

January 30, 2017

Last weekend we visited the beautiful city of Granada, which is just a 2-hour drive away from Marbella. This was my second time there, but since I didn’t have a blog back then when I first traveled there, I can’t link it to the beautiful photos I have of Alhambra, but I will post them soon, I promise. Anyway, we stayed at the luxurious five star AC Palacio de Santa Paula Hotel right in the centre of the city. It’s situated near the Albaicín and Sacro Monte areas, the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel, the historical Gardens of the Triumph, the Archeological museum, and, of course, the Alhambra.

As soon as you arrive, you feel the perks of a five star hotel - you can park right in the door of the hotel, your luggage will be taken inside and your car will be parked for you. All you have to do is sit back and relax. We stayed at a stunning room with a private balcony overlooking their gorgeous courtyard. Even though this 75-room hotel is modernised, they have managed to fuse old an new in a perfect way. You have all the comforts you need, but you still feel like you’re going back in time. And that is because this beautiful hotel, one of the best five star hotels in Granada, replaced the Santa Paula Convent and the Casa Morisca, dating back to the XVI and XII centuries.

The hotel’s restaurant, “El Claustro”, where the Santa Paula convent refectory used to be, offers guests haute cuisine that fuses elements of traditional Andalusian gastronomy with modern culinary concepts. And that is also where we had our lovely A la Carte as well as a buffet breakfast. I loved how this luxurious hotel is centred around a beautiful courtyard with elegant stone arches, home to some beautiful orange and palm trees. And when it lights up at night, it is the perfect place for a glass of wine and a gin tonic after a day around the town.

And not only is the hotel beautiful, the service was nothing but excellent and the staff was very warm and friendly, but in the most professional way. I really recommend staying at AC Palacio de Santa Paula in Granada, since there you’re ideally situated on the Gran Via de Colon, which one of the main avenues in Granada’s old quarter. You can walk to the all the restaurants and shops as well as to the famed Cathedral and even the majestic Alhambra is less than 1km away. And you can also drive to the snowy Sierra Nevada, which is around 45-minute drive away. And that’s what we did, but you’ll have to read it from my next blog!
