What to do in Seville, Spain?

Since I have visited this beautiful city now couple of times, I wanted to share some of my favourite things to do, see and of course where to eat in Seville. Seville is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Andalusia and the province of Seville, situated on the plain of the River Guadalquivir. It's a very modern city, but with a lot of history and amazing historical buidings. Let's start with the most famous and most fabulous one..

HAVE TO SEE
The Giralda, the Cathedral of Seville & The Old Town
Seville’s immense cathedral, one of the largest Christian churches in the world, is breathtaking and one of the first things you see when enterting the centre of Seville. Standing on the site of the great 12th-century Almohad mosque, with the mosque’s minaret (the Giralda) towering beside it. I'm not going to bore you with the whole history of this magnificent church, read more about it here! Or even better, go and see this miracle! Don't forget to play lottery opposite the Cathedral - they say the Black Cat brings you luck..

HAVE TO EAT
Dos de Mayo

After walking around the city, you will sure to build up an appetite.. For a local tapa experience you must visit Dos de Mayo. This tapas bar (very close to El Corte Ingles) is a great place for a tapa and glass (or why not a bottle) of wine. But be warned - it is super busy! So busy you will have to wait for a table up to an hour! But not to worry, they will serve you also in the bar and you can enjoy the food also standing up if you have no time or patience to wait until you're seated. All in all, a great Spanish tapa restaurant - make sure to try the selection of the cheeses and ham.. mmm..

Perro Viejo
What a place. Seriously. One of my favourite restaurants ever. Great location, amazing tapas and great prices! Perro Viejo a fairly new restaurant in Seville, offering tapas with a twist and did I say with reasonable prices! I do recommend you to make a reservation or if you can't make one, try and go there as early as possible (20:00 or 20:30) and you will get your food! The same policy (like at Cinco de Mayo) applies to this tapas place - even whilst you're waiting for your table and having a drink at their cool bar (with a tree in the middle of the 3-storey restaurant!) you can order some tapas and eat whilst standing up. My favourite dishes are the Yakitori Chicken, the Croquettes and of course the Patatas Bravas!

Mercado Lonja del Barranco
This food market is the perfect option for a quick breakfast/lunch or why not casual dinner with friends. From empanadas, cheeses, hams and omelettes to pastry and sushi - this market has it all. Opened in November 2014, in a beautiful riverside glass and iron building designed by Gustave Eiffel (think Tower, Paris), Lonja del Barranco has altogether 20 stalls. Seating is available both inside and outside and most of the food is available either as a tapa (small plate) or racion (large plate). Please do try the different Croquettes and their variety of Spanish Omelettes!

HAVE TO DRINK Rooftop Bar at Hotel Doña María
After dinner the best place to enjoy the view of the city is one Seville's rooftop bars. Hotel Doña María, located very close to the Cathedral, has a great view of the Giralda and great Gin Tonics to compliment the view..

The Gourmet Experience Rooftop at El Corte Inglés
El Corte Inglés in Seville has a beautiful rooftop terrace called the Gourmet Experience. Like I needed another reason to visit it.. I love this mall. I could spend hours in this department store and now there is another reason to visit it. The last floor is a gourmet section, offering goods as well as different places to eat and drink. Great place to wine down..

HAVE TO GO
Plaza de España & Maria Luisa Park
After the amazing dinner you had at Perro Viejo, the best place to walk off that extra kil is the dreamy Maria Luisa Park. Great place to escape from the noise of the city and to do some sightseeing. In the park you can find the famous Plaza de España that was built in 1929 and it is an outstanding example of Regionalist Revival Architecture, a bizarre and loftily conceived mixture of diverse historic styles, such as Art Deco and lavishly ornamented with typical glazed tiles. Curving round the Plaza de España , with its fountains and mini-canals, is the most grandiose of the buildings built for the 1929 Exposición Iberoamericana, a brick-and-tile confection featuring Seville tilework at its gaudiest, with a map and historical scene for each Spanish province. You can hire row boats to ply the canals from just €5. There are also a Museo Arqueológico with Roman sculptures, mosaics and statues so you will find plenty of things to do in this park.
