Marbella Old Town Walking Tour: Hidden Gems, Local Cafés & Secret Streets

Marbella is famous for its luxury hotels, beach clubs and Puerto Banús luxury port, but for me, the real heart of the town has always been Marbella Old Town (Casco Antiguo). Having lived in Marbella for over 15 years, I still find myself wandering these charming whitewashed streets, discovering new little boutiques, stopping for a coffee, wine or matcha, or simply enjoying the relaxed Andalusian atmosphere. In this walking tour, I take you through some of my favourite corners of the Old Town, as well as a few places you might otherwise walk straight past.

Where to Park

I recommend to park in Indigo Parking (Avenida Del Mar) behind the Alameda Park, which is opposite the old town right on the Main Street, Ricardo Soriano. My video tour walk begins also just behind the beautiful Alameda Park. There are also famed sculptures of Salvador Dali and access to the beach and paseo. It's also conveniently close to my family doctor and my children's pediatrician, Javier Arrillaga, so it's an area I know very well. Plus Manuka Cafe for great coffee and healthy meals. Crossing the road, we pass Holland & Barrett, one of my favourite health food shops, before making a quick stop at the recently opened Gud Café, where I picked up an iced Matcha to enjoy during the walk.

Shops & Charming Streets

One of the things I love most about Marbella Old Town is that no two streets are the same. Every corner seems to reveal colourful flower pots, traditional balconies, hidden courtyards or beautiful wooden doors. Along the way we also pass one of my favourite little vintage and antique shops, perfect if you're looking for something unique rather than the typical tourist souvenirs.

Unlike many tourist destinations, Marbella Old Town still feels very much alive with local businesses. Small independent boutiques sit alongside cafés, bakeries and family-run restaurants that have been welcoming visitors for decades. If you enjoy browsing local shops or simply people-watching from a terrace, this is one of the best areas in Marbella to spend a leisurely morning or afternoon. Be mindful that a lot of the places close for the siesta, between 14:00 and 17:00. One of my favorite shops is Deja Vu vintage for not only clothes and accessories but also homeware  - you can get great gifts and unique finds there.

Plaza de los Naranjos

No visit to Marbella Old Town would be complete without stopping at the famous Plaza de los Naranjos. Surrounded by orange trees, cafés and historic buildings, it's one of the most photographed spots in Marbella and a wonderful place to sit with a coffee or enjoy lunch. I also love the fresh juices and churros next the to the little church there!

Café Flore, Casanis & La Fonda

During the walk you'll also see some of Marbella's most popular restaurants and hotels. Café Flore is perfect for an Italian meal, but my all time favorite is definitely Casanis Marbella. It’s a mixture of French cuisine and Mediterranean and an absolute must as it’s so romantic and the food is divine!

Just around the corner you'll find La Fonda Heritage Hotel, one of Marbella's most beautiful newly renovated boutique hotels, where you can also enjoy excellent dining and, opposite the hotel is one of the most famous traditional flamenco performance places called - Tablao Flamenco.

Marbella's Local Food Market

Just a few minutes' walk from the Old Town lies one of Marbella's hidden gems: Mercado Municipal de Marbella, located on Jacinto Benavente and Calle Francisco de Quevedo. This indoor market is where locals come to buy fresh fish, seafood, fruit, vegetables, meat and local produce every day. If you want to experience a more authentic side of Marbella away from the beach clubs, it's definitely worth visiting. And I also love to park there, as it’s very close to the Old town, right above it, probably closest parking if you’re going to dine at Casanis restaurant.

My Favorite Charity Shop

Near the Mercado, you’ll find a great toy shop called MGI, as well as my favorite charity shop in Marbella helping the Butterfly Skin (DEBRA) Charity,  which I also support with closet&cocktails vintage market. It’s a great place to find second-hand treasures or donate your old clothes, toys and home items to support a local charities.
